§ 13. Mr. Martenasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the future constitution of Anguilla.
§ Mr. RowlandsThe Anguillans have accepted Her Majesty's Government's proposal that a new and separate constitution should be provided for Anguilla giving a substantial measure of internal autonomy. When agreement on the details has been reached the constitution will be provided by means of an Order in Council made under the Anguilla Act 1971.
§ Mr. MartenI am glad to hear that. Meanwhile, will the Government do everything possible to encourage reputable investment in the island? Ever since the last notable invasion of Anguilla, it has been under a constitutional cloud which has prohibited investment coming in. Now that the people want work and investment, can Her Majesty's Government help?
§ Mr. RowlandsI can give that assurance. Obviously the Government will encourage reputable investment in Anguilla.
