HC Deb 14 July 1975 vol 895 cc1058-9
64. Mr. Corbett

asked the Attorney-General whether he has yet received the report of an investigation carried out by the Chief Constable of the West Midlands into allegations that six prisoners on remand at Her Majesty's Prison, Winson Green, were assaulted by warders in November last; and whether he will make a statement.

The Attorney-General

This matter is sub judice and I regret that I can make no comment.

Mr. Corbett

I am somewhat puzzled why this matter should be sub judice. May I risk this question: can the Attorney-General explain to the House how so far this inquiry has taken six-and-a-half months to produce nothing when everybody concerned in it, involuntarily or because of employment, has been in one of Her Majesty's prisons?

The Attorney-General

I am sorry, but I cannot add to what I said before.
