§ Mr. Bryan Gould (Southampton, Test)I beg leave to present a petition on behalf of the Women's Regional Advisory Committee of the Southern Region of the Labour Party.
The petitioners are concerned at the financial hardship which they believe many single-parent families have to endure, and they wish to urge the Government to take some action to relieve the plight in which many of these single parents find themselves.
Wherefore your Petitioners pray that your honourable House urge Her Majesty's Government to introduce the Guaranteed Maintenance Allowance as recommended in the Finer Report, to be paid to the mother or father with day-to-day responsibility for the child or children solely on the grounds of being a lone parent.
