§ 9. Mr. Cormackasked the Secretary of State for Employment what arrangements he is making to review retraining schemes in rural areas.
§ Mr. Harold WalkerThe Manpower Services Commission informs me that the Training Services Agency is expanding the training opportunities scheme and that the increased facilities will benefit those living in rural areas. In addition, the Council for Small Industries in Rural Areas has embarked on an expansion 1094 programme designed to increase the range and scope of training which it provides in traditional rural crafts and other occupations.
§ Mr. CormackWhile thanking the Under-Secretary of State for that reply, may I point out that forestry is one of our most important rural industries? May I stress the necessity for the Chancellor of the Exchequer to clarify his recent welcome capital transfer tax concessions with regard to forestry? Will the hon. Gentleman tell us what plans he has specifically to encourage young men to take up forestry?
§ Mr. WalkerThe latter part of the question is obviously a matter for the Training Services Agency. I should require notice to find out exactly what is happening. As regards the first part of his question, the hon. Gentlement has had his opportunity to make his point to the Chancellor about the excellent capital transfer tax which was proposed by my right hon. Friend.
§ Mr. Guy BarnettIs my hon. Friend aware that the best opportunities are available for young people wanting to go into forestry if they enter the Forestry Commission?
§ Mr. WalkerI take note of that.
