§ 1. Mr. Goldingasked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will take steps to accord suitable recognition to those who have served on local employment committees.
§ The Under-Secretary of State for Employment (Mr. John Fraser)My right hon. Friend wrote personally to chairmen of local employment committees in July to thank them for their services and those of local employment committee members.
§ Mr. GoldingIs my hon. Friend aware that there was great disappointment in Newcastle-under-Lyme on the part of the trades council and the local employment committee as a result of their being disbanded? Would not my suggestion be the best form of recognition of their service to ensure a continuation of their work in some form?
§ Mr. FraserI am aware of the correspondence concerning this and I am grateful for the assistance which local employment committees provide. The Manpower Services Commission will shortly be setting up new district manpower committees and I hope that they will be able to obtain the services of those who have served well on local employment committees.
