HC Deb 26 March 1974 vol 871 cc303-4

We have said that we will seek a fundamental renegotiation of the terms of entry to the EEC, including the balance of financial advantage between the United Kingdom's contribution to the Community Budget and receipts from it. Under existing policies, in the coming financial year we would be paying £210 million and getting back only about £120 million. At the very outset of renegotiation it is too early to put a figure on what improvements we can obtain, or to say when we would begin to benefit, but I can assure the House that we are determined to get a better deal for this country; every million pounds we can save in this field will help us in many ways.
