HC Deb 19 June 1974 vol 875 cc477-8
Mr. Buchanan-Smith

On a point of order, Mr. Speaker. As you are aware, the United Nations Law of the Sea Conference opens in Caracas tomorrow. This is a matter of considerable importance to the fishing industry not only in Scotland but throughout the United Kingdom. So far, the House has had no indication of what is to be Her Majesty's Government's policy at this conference. Since there is no statement to be made by a member of the Government, so far as I know, may I draw your attention to Written Question No. 17, which has appeared on the Order Paper for the first time today? Can you let the House know whether you have had a request from the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs indicating that he is prepared to answer this Question in the House today? It is concerned with a matter of great importance not only to the House but to our fishing industry as well.

Mr. Speaker

My answer to the first part of the hon. Gentleman's point of order is "Not a matter for me". The answer to the second part is "No".
