§ The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Mr. E. S. Bishop)I beg to move,
That the Synodical Government (Amendment) Measure 1974, passed by the General Synod of the Church of England, be presented to Her Majesty for Her Royal Assent in the form in which the said Measure was laid before Parliament.I move this motion because I was, until a few days ago, the Second Church Estates Commissioner.Both this Measure and the Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction (Amendment) Measure 1974 are non-controversial. Both have been scrutinised carefully. During their passage through the General Synod certain changes were made but at no stage was there a Division. The first Measure modifies the 1968 Measure and authorises the Synod to provide for the addition to its membership of nine suffragen bishops, to be elected full members of the House of Bishops of the Church Synod. It simplifies the procedure to be adopted in respect of the relationship of the Church of England to overseas Churches and makes changes with regard to the method of voting in Synod.
