asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he has yet completed his consideration of the recommendations of the Hunter Committee's report on fresh-water fishing; and if he will make a statement

In the interim can something be done about the stocking of poor waters for the public benefit?

I think that my hon. Friend raised this matter a few weeks ago at Question Time and I said then that we would consider it

Will the right hon. Gentleman bear in mind that the Hunter Report contains proposals which would have damaging effects on commercial salmon fishing on the English side of the border, in Northumberland, and that the shelf is the best place for them?

Mr. Ross

The Hunter Report contains many complex proposals, some of which have been overtaken by time—because it is nearly 10 years since the Committee made an interim report
