HC Deb 18 October 1973 vol 861 c406
Q3. Mr. Skinner

asked the Prime Minister if he will pay an official visit to Blackpool.

The Prime Minister

I have visited Blackpool recently—but I have no immediate plans to do so again.

Mr. Skinner

The Prime Minister should go back—[Interruption.].

Mr. Speaker

Order. The hon. Gentleman must ask a question.

Mr. Skinner

Does not the Prime Minister realise that he has a public duty —[Interruption.].

Mr. Speaker

Order. Will the hon. Member ask a question?

Hon Members

He has done.

Mr. Skinner

"Does not the Prime Minister realise?" is a question.

Mr. Speaker

Order. Sometimes when there is a great deal of noise it is not easy for the Chair to hear. The hon. Member is trying to put a question—let him put the question.

Mr. Skinner

You are very sensible, Mr. Speaker.

Mr. Speaker

That may be a statement of the obvious, but it is not a question.

Mr. Skinner

Does not the Prime Minister realise that he has a public duty to trot along to the Lord Mayor's office in Blackpool and apologise for all the blood on the Winter Gardens floor?

The Prime Minister

I paid an official visit to the Mayor of Blackpool on Tuesday, dined with him in the evening, attended his reception on Wednesday and dined with him on Friday. I do not think that it is necessary for me to do any more in that respect, and it is certainly unnecessary to call him the Lord Mayor.
