HC Deb 05 November 1973 vol 863 cc599-600
16. Mr. John Grant

asked the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications if he is satisfied with the operation of Section 8 of the Sound Broadcasting Act 1972.

Sir J. Eden

Yes, Sir.

Mr. Grant

Will the Minister confirm that when the two London commercial radio stations began their operations there were no local advisory committees in existence as required by the Act? Can he say why that was? What is the current situation? What steps will he take to ensure that the situation does not arise again?

Sir J. Eden

The IBA is pressing ahead with the appointment of members of the advisory committee. A chairman and four members have already been appointed but not a complete advisory committee. Some difficulties have been encountered, partly because of the need to get a more balanced list of suggestions from the GLC.
