HC Deb 28 March 1973 vol 853 c1290
15. Mr. Grylls

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when he expects to complete the landscaping work on the section of the M3 motorway between Lightwater and Chertsey.

Mr. Speed

Subject to weather conditions and the satisfactory completion of engineering works, the landscaping works should be completed during 1974.

Mr. Grylls

I thank my hon. Friend for that answer. Is he aware that the M3 motorway cuts through Chobham Common, which is one of the great beauty spots in the South of England, and that it is important that the Department's landscaping work should include the replacement of heather and gorse dug up for the motorway?

Mr. Speed

I thank my hon. Friend for that suggestion. We shall certainly consider that matter. The planting will be carried out by the Forestry Commission. I hope that we shall be able to meet my hon. Friend's point.
