HC Deb 12 March 1973 vol 852 cc885-6
24. Mr. John

asked the Secretary of State for Wales on how many sites in Wales toxic chemicals have been deposited by firms contracting to dispose of them.

The Minister of State, Welsh Office (Mr. David Gibson-Watt)

This information is not at present available but the Welsh Office, in co-operation with local authorities, is making a full survey of all waste disposal sites, including those where toxic chemicals may have been deposited. I hope the results of this survey will be available later this year.

Mr. John

May I express the hope that a code of practice for the clumping of chemicals will be drawn up to avoid environmental damage such as that caused by the careless dumping of such chemicals in the past?

Mr. Gibson-Watt

I am well aware of the hon. Gentleman's concern. I can assure him that my right hon. Friend and I are equally concerned about the case he has raised and the matter in general.
