HC Deb 12 March 1973 vol 852 cc875-6
17. Mr. John

asked the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications if he will give a general direction to the Post Office to institute a study of the methods used for the cancellation of letters and postcards.

Sir J. Eden

No, Sir. This is a management matter for the Post Office.

Mr. John

Does the Minister not agree that having paid for a postcard and the postage a person is justifiably annoyed when the method of cancellation adopted by the Post Office incorporates advertising material which defaces the written message on that card? Does he not consider there is a case for the Post Office and the card manufacturers reserving the top 1½ inches of a postcard so that people writing a message may keep clear of that area?

Sir J. Eden

I am sure that the Post Office will take heed of the views of the hon. Gentleman. If he has any specific point that he would like to bring directly to the attention of the Post Office perhaps he will do so.
