HC Deb 18 July 1973 vol 860 cc629-30

Lords Amendment: No. 5, in page 14, line 14, leave out "or classes".

Sir Geoffrey Howe

I beg to move, That this House doth agree with the Lords in the said amendment.

This and the other Lords amendments to Clause 19 and one linked amendment to Schedule 6 all have the effect of removing some doubt which existed about the scope of the powers conferred by Clause 19(2) on the Director to make orders in relation to certain classes of transactions. The wording which existed there, notably in lines 27 and 28, might have restricted the Director's power to make recommendations for certain kinds of order. By these changes we remove any doubt and clarify and strengthen the power conferred upon the Director General.

Question put and agreed to.
