§ 41. Mr. Crouchasked the Lord President of the Council why the uniforms provided for the female staff in the Harcourt Room were ordered without prior measurements of the staff concerned; and if he will make a statement.
Dr. BennettI have been asked to reply.
This has been the usual method, and has not hitherto been complained of.
§ Mr. CrouchThese are little things on which one has to keep an eye. I am grateful to my hon. Friend for his thorough and full answer. However, may I suggest that the girls—and hon. Members—would appreciate it if estimates of this sort were a little closer to the actual figures?
Dr. BennettAs my hon. Friend says, these are important points. However, it is very difficult to obtain uniforms made to measure for staff who do not turn up. Four of the waitresses did not appear at the beginning of the Session. Therefore, we have to lay in a stock of uniforms which can be altered to fit individual vital statistics.
