asked the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications when a decision on the development of TXE4 will be made.

The Post Office proposals have just been received. These will now be fully considered in all their aspects by the Government. I hope to be able to announce the decision in the course of the next two months.

Mr. Golding

Is the Minister aware that this decision is required as quickly as possible? It is important that obsolescent equipment be not ordered when more modern equipment could be ordered instead.

Sir J. Eden

I am aware of that. I will ensure that the examination processes are carried through as rapidly as possible, but this is also a very important decision for the future of our exchange equipment.
