HC Deb 07 February 1973 vol 850 cc446-7
19. Mr. Hugh Jenkins

asked the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications whether in making the recent appointment of Chairman of the BBC he consulted the views of the governors of the corporation.

Sir J. Eden

It is not customary to reveal what consultations have taken place before appointments are made.

Mr. Jenkins

Does not the right hon. Gentleman agree that it has been customary in the past to consult the governors on the question of appointments? Is he not prepared to say that on this occasion he followed the previous practice?

Sir J. Eden

No, I am not prepared to add to what I have said in reply to the Question.

Mr. Stratton Mills

Would it not be appropriate to wish the chairman well in his difficult job?

Sir J. Eden

I am sure the new chairman will be grateful for that observation.
