HC Deb 06 November 1972 vol 845 cc614-5
22. Mr. Probert

asked the Secretary of State for Wales whether he will make a statement on the implications for Wales of the report of the Forestry Commission.

Mr. Gibson-Watt

I assume that the hon. Member refers to the consultative document on forestry policy issued by the Government in June. Consultations on this are still in progress and all the implications for Wales will be taken fully into account before decisions are reached.

Mr. Probert

Will the hon. Gentleman assure the people of Wales that the invaluable work of the Forestry Commission will not be eroded to the benefit of private woodlands owners and at the expense of the Forestry Commission?

Mr. Gibson-Watt

I certainly agree with the hon. Gentleman that the work of the Forestry Commission in many aspects has been highly successful, but I hope that he will not be too derogatory about the work of private owners.
