§ 14. Sir A. Meyerasked the Secretary of State for Wales whether he can estimate the total value of house improvement grants available annually in Flint-shire following on the grant of intermediate area status to the county; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Gibson-WattIt is not practicable to estimate the future increased take-up of these grants. There is no limit imposed on the number which may be awarded.
§ Sir A. MeyerIs my hon. Friend aware that we in Flintshire are grateful that with the grant of intermediate area status we have become eligible for house improvement grants at a higher rate? Will he look into the question whether various local authorities apply different standards in awarding discretionary grants, and will he consider issuing guidance on this matter to ensure a uniform standard?
§ Mr. Gibson-WattI am certainly prepared to look into what my hon. Friend asks. I am not aware of any large difference in the methods used by local authorities.
