HC Deb 22 May 1972 vol 837 cc978-9
14. Sir A. Meyer

asked the Secretary of State for Wales whether he can estimate the total value of house improvement grants available annually in Flint-shire following on the grant of intermediate area status to the county; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Gibson-Watt

It is not practicable to estimate the future increased take-up of these grants. There is no limit imposed on the number which may be awarded.

Sir A. Meyer

Is my hon. Friend aware that we in Flintshire are grateful that with the grant of intermediate area status we have become eligible for house improvement grants at a higher rate? Will he look into the question whether various local authorities apply different standards in awarding discretionary grants, and will he consider issuing guidance on this matter to ensure a uniform standard?

Mr. Gibson-Watt

I am certainly prepared to look into what my hon. Friend asks. I am not aware of any large difference in the methods used by local authorities.
