§ 35. Mr. Hardyasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he, or one of his Ministers, will pay an official visit to South Yorkshire and, particularly, those areas within that part of the county where male unemployment is at, near, or over the rate of 10 per cent.
§ Mr. Anthony GrantMy right hon. Friend the Minister for Industrial Development hopes to visit Leeds on 22nd May. Further visits to this and other assisted areas will follow as circumstances allow.
§ Mr. HardyLeeds is not in South Yorkshire. Before he visits Leeds or any other part of Yorkshire, will the Minister remind himself that several thousand jobs have been lost since the Government announced their change of regional policy? Therefore, when he visits Yorkshire and other areas in similar difficulties, will he be prepared to explain to the people in those areas exactly when unemployment will be reduced and why the Government took so long to change their regional policies?
§ Mr. GrantWhen my right hon. Friend visits Leeds, or any other part of Yorkshire, he will engage in the fullest possible discussions, as I have. What is clear is that Yorkshire stands to gain greatly from the Government's new regional policies.
