HC Deb 01 May 1972 vol 836 c10
10. Mr. Roderick

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what is his estimate of the number of pupils in Wales due to be leaving school in July but for the raising of the school leaving age.

Mr. Peter Thomas

None, because pupils whose fifteenth birthday falls before 1st September, 1972, will not be affected.

Mr. Roderick

When the time does arise, does not the Secretary of State realise that the numbers will be very low, because increasing numbers are staying on as there are no jobs for them? Would he consider paying these pupils a grant while at school, because they will be losing unemployment pay to which they would have been entitled?

Mr. Thomas

I answered the hon. Gentleman's Question, and the answer was "None."
