HC Deb 01 May 1972 vol 836 cc1-2
Mr. Molloy

I have most readily agreed to a request from many hundreds of my constituents resident in Perivale in my constituency of Ealing, North, to present a Petition to Parliament to protest against planning permission granted to developers by the planning committee of Ealing Council which has contemptuously ignored a request for an investigation into the issue from myself and the Secretary of State for the Environment.

Since permission was granted, a prima facie case of misunderstanding involving British Railways, the owners of the land, and the planning department, has been established. The council tried to buy this meadow, but was frustrated by financial considerations. My constituents have suffered much anguish and frustration. The Petition sheweth That planning permission granted by Ealing Town Planning Committee to allow three warehouses and estate roads to be constructed on the meadow and virgin land upon which our homes do border, will grievously affect our lives and property, have deleterious effect on the environment of our community, blight our homes and lives, destroy much wild life and cause mental anxiety and anguish to the residents, especially the elderly and infirm in the adjoining houses, by the increase in noise and pollution from lorries and cars. Wherefore your Petitioners pray that the House do direct the Secretary of State for the Environment to institute a public inquiry or release us of the threat to our lives and peace of mind which has been with us for seven years, by preventing this measure from being implemented. And your Petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray.

To lie upon the Table
