HC Deb 13 March 1972 vol 833 c5
4. Sir A. Myer

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what plans his Department has for the use of Kinmel Camp when the Ministry of Defence ceases its activities there.

The Secretary of State for Wales (Mr. Peter Thomas)

I understand that no final decision has been taken to close the camp.

Sir A. Meyer

Will my right hon. and learned Friend bear in mind that this camp provides employment for a great many civilians locally? It is extremely well-equipped. If the Ministry of Defence decides that it does not want it, it could serve either for retraining purposes or in connection with the raising of the school leaving age.

Mr. Thomas

As I said to my hon. Friend, no final decision has been taken. The matter is under review. If a decision is taken to close the camp, it will be offered for other purposes.
