9. Mr. Dalyell

asked the Minister of State for Defence if he will make a a statement on the policy conclusions arising out of major Royal Air Force training exercises in the autumn of 1971.

Mr. Lambton

The immediate conclusion to be drawn from these exercises is that the operational procedures of the Royal Air Force are generally sound.

How much under strength is the R.A.F.?

I do not think that any Minister of Defence, of any party is ever satisfied with the total strength of the forces under his control.
