HC Deb 17 February 1972 vol 831 c616
Q6. Mr. Onslow

asked the Prime Minister when he next expects officially to meet Mrs. Bandaranaike.

The Prime Minister

I had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Bandaranaike when she was in London last October as the guest of Her Majesty's Government. There are at present no plans for further meetings.

Mr. Onslow

As Mrs. Bandaranaike gave certain assurances about the protection of British investments in Ceylon, will my right hon. Friend point out to her, should he meet her again, that if the Marxist Government are not able to meet those assurances, there may be a case for considering whether Ceylon disqualifies herself from receipt of British aid?

The Prime Minister

Mrs. Bandaranaike has given us assurances that the legislation in Ceylon is not intended to discriminate against British interests. This matter was raised again with the Government of Ceylon by the C.B.I. delegation which saw the Deputy Prime Minister, who repeated the assurance which we had already received from the Prime Minister herself.
