HC Deb 14 December 1972 vol 848 c598
12. Mr. Michael McNair-Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many vacancies have occurred in the suspended Northern Ireland Parliament since March 1972.

Mr. Peter Mills

Two—one in the House of Commons and one in the Senate.

Mr. McNair-Wilson

Does not my lion. Friend agree that allowing those vacancies to remain indefinitely without increased representation at Westminster adds weight to the justifiable grievance of people in Northern Ireland that neither at Westminster nor in their Province are they given representation commensurate with the representation given in other parts of the United Kingdom?

Mr. Mills

I quite understand what my hon. Friend is saying. However, we believe that it is right to await the announcement of the White Paper and what it entails.
