HC Deb 14 December 1972 vol 848 c621
Q7. Mr. Leslie Huckfield

asked the Prime Minister if he will appoint a grocer to the Central Policy Review Body.

The Prime Minister

I would refer the hon. Member to the answer which I gave to the hon. Member for Birmingham, Northfield (Mr. Carter) on 7th December.—[Vol. 847, c. 501.]

Mr. Huckfield

How many complaints has the Prime Minister had from grocers since the television broadcast he did the other night, when he told everyone to do their shopping in supermarkets? Is it the case that even if grocers wanted to keep down prices they could not do so because the present Government's, or Heathco's, prices freeze policy is a gigantic farce?

The Prime Minister

I have had no complaints of that kind and I have made none to myself.

Mr. Milne

Is the Prime Minister aware that, unlike himself, I am by qualification and training a grocer? When he is considering the composition of this review body, will the right hon. Gentleman undertake to consider my qualifications for appointment?

The Prime Minister

I shall, indeed, but I would not want to enter into competition with the hon. Gentleman.
