§ Mr. SpeakerYesterday when I gave my ruling on the privilege matter raised by the hon. Member for Birmingham, Northfield (Mr. Carter) I promised to consider certain further points raised by the Leader of the Opposition and other right hon. and hon. Members. I have now done so. But I do not think that I should make any further observations. The matter of the complaint has been referred by the House to the Committee of Privileges, where I am sure it would be appropriate for all these points to be considered.
Perhaps I should also inform the House that I have received a letter from the parties concerned in the complaint of the hon. Member for Northfield and I am sending that letter to the Committee of Privileges together with the documents handed in by the hon. Member.
§ Mr. CarterFurther to your reference, Mr. Speaker, to yesterday's motion by 241 the Leader of the House, this may seem a narrow point, but, as I wish to pursue the substance of the matter under discussion, may I ask precisely what limits will be placed upon my activities as a Member of Parliament in relation to the St. Christopher Motorists Association?
§ Mr. SpeakerI understand the hon. Member's anxiety about the matter, but I carefully considered this and I think that it would be most unwise for the Chair ever to lay down rules about hypothetical matters. I think that I must deal with the actions as they happen. I think that the hon. Member must take his advice from someone other than myself.
