HC Deb 02 August 1972 vol 842 cc531-2
Mr. Skeet

With your permission, Mr. Speaker, and that of the House, I beg to present a Petition on behalf of Mr. David Conclough and Mr. Leslie Dodds, the president and general secretary, respectively, of the National Hairdressers' Federation and others.

The Petition sheweth That there are directives being considered by the European Economic Community relative to hairdressing activities and the free movement of labour. Wherefore your Petitioners pray that such rights, powers, liabilities, obligations and res- trictions as arise under directives of the European Economic Community respecting the free movement of labour and the fixing of minimum standards of training shall in relation to hairdressing activities have no legal effect in the United Kingdom until the expiration of six years from the accepted entry date of Great Britain into the European Economic Community. And your Petitioners, as in duty bound, will every pray. Mr. Speaker, it should not be assumed that I wholly agree with the sentiments expressed in the Petition.

To lie upon the Table.
