HC Deb 26 April 1972 vol 835 cc1537-8
24. Mr. Allason

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when he expects to reach a decision on the public inquiry on the development of Luton Airport.

Mr. Graham Page

My right hon. Friend will give his decision as soon as possible after he has received and considered the inspector's report.

Mr. Allason

Is my hon. Friend aware that the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry has decided not to put any control on flying at Luton Airport until the result of the inquiry is known? Does my hon. Friend appreciate that in consequence there is a vast increase in flying this summer and that those who live under the flight paths of Luton Airport are having a miserable time? Therefore, will he please ensure that there is a very early decision on the report?

Mr. Page

We are expecting the report early next month. It would be quite wrong for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry to make any order under his new powers before my right hon. Friend has had an opportunity to consider the report.
