§ 17. Mr. Fowlerasked the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications what fresh representations he has received on the need for an independent broadcasting council.
§ Sir J. EdenNone since 1st March, when my hon. Friend asked a similar Question.—[Vol. 832, c. 398.]
§ Mr. FowlerThat is probably because the public have not yet caught up with my right hon. Friend in his new appointment. Will he recognise that the call for a broadcasting council is a call not for censorship but to try to find means whereby the public may have some kind of redress? Rather than give a snap answer to the call for an independent broadcasting council today, will my right hon. Friend at least say that he will be prepared to give fresh consideration to this question?
§ Sir J. EdenI naturally have a great deal of interest in any question or proposition put forward by my hon. Friend, and I certainly do not dismiss this out of hand.
