HC Deb 23 November 1971 vol 826 c1107
Mr. George Thomson

I beg to present a petition to Parliament from 45,806 citizens of the City of Dundee.

The petition sheweth That grave unemployment has existed in the City of Dundee for some time and has been worsened by the further contraction of the jute industry and by the substantial reduction in the work force of the National Cash Register Company (Manufacturing) Limited who are one of the principal employers in the City in consequence whereof unemployment among male insured workers in the City is now approaching the alarming rate of 10 per cent. Wherefore your Petitioners pray that your Honourable House will with due urgency take all such measures as may be necessary and expedient to encourage the retention and expansion of existing industries within the City and to stimulate the establishment of new industries therein. And your Petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray &c.

To lie upon the Table.
