§ 39. Mr. Frank Allaunasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement about his official discussions on 18th October with Prince Souvanna Phouma.
§ Mr. KershawThe discussions covered the situation in South-East Asia as a whole, and in Laos in particular. My right hon. Friend assured the Prince of Her Majesty's Government's continued support for himself and his Government in their courageous efforts to preserve their country's neutrality against Communist aggression.
§ Mr. AllaunIn view of the discussions now taking place prior to President 954 Nixon's visit to Peking, may I ask whether, as the Pathet Lao says that it will talk with the Prince's Government if the bombing is stopped in Laos, the Government could make such a proposal to the President in Washington?
§ Mr. KershawIt would be fine if the Pathet Lao would talk if the bombing stopped, but I think that the Pathet Lao had better get out of Laos first.
§ Mr. AdleyWill my hon. Friend bear in mind the responsibility which we have to stand by our friends in South-East Asia, particularly Thailand? Will he ensure that the Thais are left in no doubt that they have our continued support?
§ Mr. KershawThe Thai Government are in no doubt about our support for them.
