HC Deb 18 May 1971 vol 817 cc1071-2
27. Mr. Rost

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many premium bond prizes have been drawn on premium bonds not eligible for a draw because they have been encashed.

Mr. Patrick Jenkin

None, Sir.

Mr. Rost

Although I welcome the reply, which will reassure many premium bond holders who have been disturbed by recent Press reports suggesting that premium bond prizes have gone to the wrong bond holders, is my right hon. Friend absolutely certain that there is no cause at all for any inquiry into the recording system of the premium prize draw?

Mr. Jenkin

I am quite satisfied that the administration of the premium bond office at Lytham reduces administrative errors to the maximum possible extent. The recent Press reports arose out of a correctly addressed warrant to a proper bond holder, which was misdelivered in the course of delivery by the Post Office.
