HC Deb 31 March 1971 vol 814 c1475
9. Mr. Geoffrey Finsberg

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will issue a circular to local authorities urging greater use to be made, as short-term housing accommodation, of houses standing empty pending redevelopment.

Mr. Amery

A circular letter to this effect was sent to all housing authorities in London, where the problem is particularly important, on 4th July, 1969.

I recently reinforced the point in a speech which I made on 12th February, 1971. to the London housing managers. I will send a copy of the circular and of my speech to my hon. Friend.

Mr. Finsberg

Is my right hon. Friend satisfied with the response he has received so far? Have any boroughs in London, in addition to the progressive borough of Camden, taken any action on this?

Mr. Amery

I think that some have done better than others.
