HC Deb 30 March 1971 vol 814 cc1355-6
Q9. Mr. Carter

asked the Prime Minister if he is satisfied with the way in which the restructuring of Government Departments have been implemented; and if he will make a statement.

The Prime Minister

Yes, Sir. I am satisfied that good progress has been made within the broad framework set out in the White Paper on the Reorganisation of Central Government published last October.

Mr. Carter

Is the Prime Minister aware that the complete mess the Government have so far made of the British aircraft industry is a direct result of the Government's decision to set up a separate Ministry of Aviation Supply, and that neither in America nor Britain will confidence in this Government's handling of aviation be re-established until a very close look is taken once again at the establishment of that Ministry?

The Prime Minister

The hon. Gentleman's opening remarks come ill from a supporter of a former Government that destroyed the TSR 2. The organisation of Departments concerned with aviation was set out very clearly in the White Paper published last October. I announced that a review was being carried out of the Ministry of Aviation Supply. That review has been completed, and I shall announce the decisions at the appropriate time.

Mr. Loughlin

Will the Prime Minister take it from me that there is no earthly reason why he should make any statement of any kind, because no one believes a word he says?
