§ 3. Sir A. Meyerasked the Secretary of State for Wales when he next intends to visit West Flintshire.
§ Mr. Peter ThomasOn llth June.
§ Sir A. MeyerI assure my right hon. and learned Friend that when he comes to West Flintshire—always assuming that he is able to get there along the A55 in the summer months—he will be a familiar and popular figure as he walks around the streets. Will he draw the attention of his right hon. Friends the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry and the Secretary of State for Employment to the unusually high unemployment figures, which may not be visible to him in the summer months but would be if he came in the winter, and ask them to consider what has happened to Oswestry and whether the same should not happen to West Flintshire?
§ Mr. Peter ThomasYes, I am well aware of the figures which my hon. 1123 Friend has mentioned. The area is subject to considerable seasonal variations, and a high percentage of those registered as unemployed in the Rhyl area are elderly retired people who have come to the area. I assure my hon. Friend that the coverage of assisted and non-assisted areas will be kept under review.
