Amendment proposed: No. 17, in page 19, line 14, leave out Clause 25.—[Mr. R. Carr.]

Question put, That the Amendment be made:—

The House proceeded to a Division

Mr. Gerald Kaufman (Manchester, Ardwick)

(seated and covered): On a point of order, Mr. Speaker. Further to the Ruling you have just given about hon. Members not reading books or newspapers, may I drew your attention to the hon. Member for Epping (Mr. Tebbit), who is reading a magazine.

Mr. Speaker

If the hon. Member for Epping (Mr. Tebbit) is reading something for amusement and not connected with the debate, he should not do so.

Mr. Paul Hawkins and Mr. Bernard Weatherill were appointed Tellers for the Ayes, but no Member being willing to act as Teller for the Noes, Mr. SPEAKER declared that the Ayes had it.
