§ 25. Mr. McElhoneasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what progress has been made to date with regard to the promise of special housing aid for the City of Glasgow.
§ 50. Mr. Brewisasked the Secretary of State for Scotland when he will make a further statement on his proposals for meeting the special housing needs of Glasgow.
§ Mr. YoungerI cannot yet add to the reply I gave to the hon. Member for Glasgow, Central (Mr. Tom McMillan) on 24th February.—[Vol. 812, c. 133.]
§ Mr. McElhoneIs the Minister aware that the Prime Minister gave this promise in Glasgow to Glasgow as far back as 10th June and that we are still waiting? Would he like to tell us, in view of the unsatisfactory answers given in the last debate that we had, that he can give a firm date for and the kind of aid that we shall get in Glasgow?
§ Mr. YoungerAs the hon. Gentleman knows, my right hon. Friend gave an outline summary of the sort of lines we were working on in the debate on 3rd February, but a full statement on this must await full, detailed consultation with the corporation, which would not thank us for doing this in a half-hearted way without getting the details first.
§ Mr. BrewisWill my hon. Friend give further consideration to the use of the S.S.H.A. for overspill houses and also general need?
§ Mr. YoungerYes, indeed. I thank my hon. Friend for that question. This is indeed part of the plan envisaged, as my right hon. Friend mentioned in outline in his statement on 3rd February.
