HC Deb 10 March 1971 vol 813 cc492-3
Mr. Michael Heseltine

I beg to move Amendment No. 34, in page 31, line 7, leave out 'a court of quarter sessions' and insert 'the Crown Court'.

Mr. Deputy Speaker

With this Amendment we can also discuss Amendment No. 35.

Mr. Heseltine

These Amendments simply anticipate the passing of the Courts Bill now before Parliament. They replace the wording in that Bill which refers to a court of quarter sessions with the new concept as contained in the Courts Bill of a Crown court. Amendment 35 merely deals with the intervening situation between the present day and the coming into being of the Courts Bill.

Amendment agreed to.

Further Amendment made: No. 35, in page 32, line 20 at end insert: (15) Before the coming into force of section 3 of the Courts Act, 1971 subsection (6) above shall have effect as if for the reference to the Crown Court there were substituted a reference to a court of quarter sessions.—[Mr. Michael Heseltine.]
