Amendments made: No. 85, in page 86, line 16, at end insert: 4A. At any time, whether before or after the expiration of the period specified in the notice in pursuance of paragraph 1(b) of this Schedule, the Secretary of State or the local highway authority, as the case may be, by whom the notice was published may, by a subsequent notice published in at least one local newspaper circulating in the area in which any highway, or any proposed highway, to which the proposed order relates is situated, and in the London Gazette, substitute for the period specified in the first notice such longer period as may be specified in the subsequent notice. 4B. Where the period specified in a notice published by the Secretary of State or a local highway authority under paragraph 1 of this Schedule is extended by a notice published under paragraph 4A thereof, paragraph 3 of this Schedule shall apply as if the notice under the said paragraph 4A were a notice under the said paragraph 1, but the foregoing provision shall not be taken as requiring a copy of the proposed order or of any map or plan referred to in that order to be served on a person on whom it was previously served.

No. 86, in line 21, after 'Schedule', insert: 'or, if that period has been extended by a subsequent notice under paragraph 4A of this Schedule, within the period specified in the subsequent notice'.

No. 87, in line 22, leave out 'so specified', and insert: 'specified in the notice or the subsequent notice, as the case may be'.—[Mr. Graham Page.]
