§ 24. Mr. Kinseyasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what recommendations have been made to him concerning the disposal of non-returnable containers by his technical working party on refuse disposal.
§ Mr. Peter WalkerI would ask my hon. Friend to await the working party's report, which will be published very shortly.
§ Mr. KinseyI assure my right hon. Friend that we are looking forward to that report. In the meantime, and even afterwards, will he keep close contact 399 with manufacturers to see that we get the best possible use of materials? Would he consider that tin cans might be the best use as against broken glass or plastic pollution?
§ Mr. WalkerThis is a very serious problem. We will take note of the recommendations of the report. I assure my hon. Friend that we want to tackle what could be very serious increasing problems in a vigorous way.
§ Mr. KaufmanWould it not be as well if the Ministers deposited most of the answers they have given today in such non-returnable containers?
§ Mr. WalkerThe hon. Gentleman had some hand in the answers given by the last Government. I think that ours are an improvement.
