HC Deb 05 March 1971 vol 812 c2087
Mr. Bruce Milan

On a point of order. Could you, Mr. Speaker, tell the House whether you have had a request from the Secretary of State for Employment to make a statement on the Rolls-Royce redundancies in view of the news—

Mr. Speaker

Order. If I had had such a request I would have called the right hon. Gentleman. I do not think any point of order arises.

Mr. William Hamilton

Further to that point of order. The headlines in all the Scottish papers today say that there are to be 2,000 redundancies at Rolls-Royce in Scotland. It is an insult to this House that the Press get to know these things, as do people in Scotland, and that the last people in the country to know are Members of this House.

Mr. Speaker

Order. With respect to the hon. Member, headlines in the newspapers are not matters of order for me.
