§ 1. Mr. Hoosonasked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will now set up a Welsh Water Resources Board.
§ The Secretary of State for Wales (Mr. Peter Thomas)I will consider this and related questions when the report of the Central Advisory Water Committee is available.
§ Mr. HoosonAs traditionally water is said to have been the favourite drink of our patron saint, this is perhaps a suitable first Question for today.
Would it not be wiser and more sensible to have people dealing with this acute problem of water supplies in Wales who are more sensitive to, as it were, the background difficulties of Wales, and is not the only means of achieving this sensitivity through a Welsh Water Resources Board?
§ Mr. Peter ThomasI suggest that the hon. and learned Gentleman is thinking not of a water resources board—such a board, which is acceptable, already exists covering England and Wales—but of a suggestion which was made by the Welsh Council for the establishment of something in the nature of a water board. These matters are being looked at in the light of the recommendations of the C.A.W.C. and other recommendations which I shall shortly be receiving.
