§ 18. Mr. Gowerasked the Secretary of State for Wales what plans he has for converting some of the three-lane roads in Wales into dual carriageway roads; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Peter ThomasMy plans are to provide roads adequate to meet the needs of traffic wishing to use them. I shall generally avoid rebuilding three-lane roads, and I aim to replace or by-pass stretches of some existing three-lane roads by dual carriageway roads.
§ Mr. GowerWhile thanking my right hon. and learned Friend for that reply, may I ask whether there is not a lot of evidence that three-lane roads have particular dangers in addition to the normal dangers and, to that extent, would it not be beneficial to have a look at all the three-lane roads still in use in the Principality?
§ Mr. Peter ThomasCertainly all three-lane roads will be looked at. I agree with my hon. Friend that three-lane roads are to be avoided except in special circumstances.
