HC Deb 28 June 1971 vol 820 c13
7. Mr. Nicholas Edwards

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will pay an official visit to the Welsh Brigade Depot at Cwrt-y-Gollen.

Mr. Peter Thomas

I visited the depot on 12th February.

Mr. Edwards

I know that the visit by the Secretary of State to the depot on 12th February was much appreciated. Is he aware of the representations made by the Colonels of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers and the Royal Regiment of Wales, and will he as Secretary of State make clear to the Ministry of Defence the importance of maintaining a fully Welsh training depot if the best possible use is to be made of Welsh recruits and if the special Welsh character of the regiments is to be safeguarded?

Mr. Peter Thomas

Yes, Sir. I am aware that representations are being considered through military channels to preserve the Welsh character of this depot, and my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Defence and I will be in touch about these matters.
