HC Deb 22 June 1971 vol 819 cc1184-5
26. Dr. Summerskill

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what steps he is taking to eliminate delay by local authorities in the adaptation of homes for renal dialysis treatment.

Mr. Alison

I would refer the hon. Lady to my right hon. Friend's reply to the hon. Member for Manchester, Wythenshawe (Mr. Alfred Morris) on 18th June.—[Vol. 819, c. 151-2.]

Dr. Summerskill

Would the hon. Gentleman not agree that one of the causes of the serious delays by local authorities in adapting homes is that there is no central financing of cost and that in each case a time-consuming means test has to be carried out?

Mr. Alison

Local authorities are autonomous bodies, but my right hon. Friend has sent a notice to local authorities suggesting improvements in the procedure for this sort of assessment.
