HC Deb 17 June 1971 vol 819 c617
5. Mr. Booth

asked the Minister of State for Defence on what terms Changi base at Singapore is to be made available to the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation.

The Under-Secretary of State for Defence for the Royal Air Force (Mr. Antony Lambton)

Changi will be handed over to the Singapore Government when it is no longer required by the Royal Air Force, and any arrangement with the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation is a matter for that Government.

Mr. Booth

Has any understanding been reached between the British Government and the Government of the U.S.A. regarding the future use of this base by U.S. military aircraft? Were the Government aware of the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation's interest in it before they discussed with the Singapore Government the handing over of this base?

Mr. Lambton

What happens to the air base after we hand it over is a matter for the Singapore Government.
