HC Deb 08 June 1971 vol 818 c862
Q8. Mr. Carter

asked the Prime Minister how many letters he has received since 27th April relating to the exercise of his responsibilities.

The Prime Minister

About 7,000, Sir.

Mr. Carter

May I ask the Prime Minister what replies he sends to the letters he receives on the subjects of prices and unemployment because, judging by the by-election results, it appears that the electors believe that he has ratted on the pledges he gave on both issues in the General Election last year?

The Prime Minister

I have often given the House an explanation about this matter. Unlike the last Government, the present Government are not blown off course by unpopularity.
